After some negotiating this afternoon we managed to persuade Uppermill that their pitch was playable and so we could enjoy some cricket in the sunshine.
We had a few new faces in the side due to some parents deciding to cruelly take their children on holiday during the cricket season.
Captain Widdall lost the toss as usual and Shaw were asked to bat first. Stevo on debut and Vincent got us off to a good start putting on 32 for the first pair.
Next in were the u9 pair of Chewy and Ali. They put on an absolute clinic of running between the wickets and punishing the bad ball with a boundary pushing the score up in to the 70s. Next in were Big Billy (17) and.... Alfie (18) they batted in a controlled manner to push us on. Final pair Skipper Widdall (29 off 16) and debutant Isaac (3 off 7). Isaac was welcomed to the u11 hardball cricket with a beamer to the head first ball which unphased him as he kept out some very good bowling and provided excellent support to his skipper. Henry's attacking stroke play pushed up to a final score of 166/3 off our 16 overs.
The final batting pair also made up our opening bowling attack. Bowling wise we were never in danger of losing the game but our standards remained high and it was great to see Stevo and Isaac make the step up. We managed to restrict Uppermill to 80/9 with wickets for Henry, Alfie, Chewy, Vincent (2), Billy (2). Alfie took a great caught and bowled, wicket keeper widdall took a smart catch and there were run outs for Chewy/Stevo and Henry. Another fantastic performance with us now just 1 win away from securing the title. We Move #UTS
We wish our captain and vice captain well on their residential trip this weekend and hope they are not too fatigued from all the travel on the coach when they return in time for next week's fixture.
