Shaw Ladies win the 25/26 Indoor League

Shaw Ladies win the 25/26 Indoor League

Freddie Flint22 Mar - 15:35

An Impressive Indoor Campaign comes to a close as the ladies team win the league by 3 points.

After 16 weeks, 10 matches and 9 wins, the indoor season comes to a close, finishing on a high. A 39 run victory over a strong Whalley Range team sums up the season. From game one, the team showed determination and fight and led by Captain Antonia Diggle, it was clear they wouldn't settle for anywhere other than 1st in the league.

The opening game of the campaign saw the team face Werneth. A tough match in previous years but this new Shaw team like to make things easy for themselves. Taking 7 wickets in the field, 5 of which were run outs, left werneth with a total of 53 to defend. Antonia scored 25, Jennie, 20 and Zoe, 18. Leaving shaw with a total of 105 winning by 52 runs.

They then took this momentum into the second game. Losing only 1 wicket with the bat, but taking 9 with the ball. Leading to them winning the game by a staggering 96 runs. A massive achievement in itself.

The third game was the only loss of the season. A match against an equally as strong Saddleworth team, who have caused us some difficulty in past years. A hard fought game, left shaw just 8 runs short. An unlucky loss but all this did was fuel the team to want to win.

And win they did...

For the remaining 7 games the team won every single match. Scoring 764 Runs and taking 40 wickets.

The best win of the season, came as the team beat saddlworth by 25 runs. A comfortable margin and that game overall decided the final league title.

Team Coach Martin Ashfield had this to say, "The whole squad have worked hard on specific Indoor skills and it has paid off. There is little doubt we are the strongest all round team but the application from every player in the matches is what has helped us into this winning position.
11 different players took part in our 10 games so this was a true squad effort.
Well lead by Captain Antonia the team have developed a confident and resilient game winning mentality and fully deserve this title."

We cant express enough how proud of the team we are. And the way they have represented the club over the past 16 weeks has been nothing but outstanding. To watch this team every week grow, evolve and just become better players has been inspiring and we can't wait to see this momentum continue into the outdoor season.
