U15s Away to Elton Lancs Cup
After nearly getting to play on Monday, the first match of the season for the U15s was a cup game in Bury Vs Elton CC.
Their cricket pitch was big and in good condition.
Isaac was captain and we chose to bat first. Euan and Noah opened and got off to a steady start however in the second over Noah fell to a rare straight one. Next in was Theo and he and Euan kept the score ticking over thanks to some quick running and an array of wides and no balls from their quicker bowlers. Elton changed their attack and the new bowlers kept things much tighter with Theo eventually being bowled for 9 with the score on 42-1 in the 9th over. Isaac was next in and these new bowlers made run scoring harder. Euan fell in the 12th over and top scored for Shaw with 15 runs. Score 52-3. Jack was next in and made a solid start. Runs continued to be hard to find and when Isaac was bowled in the 16th over for 8 runs the score was 60-4. Charlie was the next one in and he was bowled in the 19th over for 3 runs with Shaw on 74-5. Will came in next and Jack went on the attack but fell to a catch in the last over for 9 runs. Kav joined Will in the middle but Will kept strike for the last 2 balls scoring 4 runs. Shaw finished on 81-6 off their 20 overs which seemed a below par score. Some early wickets and pressure on Elton was going to be needed.
What a start for Shaw though.
Euan opened the bowling with 2 dots and a wicket with Theo taking a good catch. 1-1. The pressure was kept on them and Grace was next up to bowl. A ball dropped short of a catch on her second delivery but her 4th was a peach of a delivery and clean bowled their batsmen. Elton were 7-2. In Grace’s next over the ball went to Noah at 3rd man who with a direct hit ran out yet another Elton batter. The score now was 16-3. Could Shaw do it. Sadly we could not keep up the momentum and Elton’s next pair batted very strongly together as that was the last wicket we took. Elton ran out as comfortable winners finishing on 82-3 (12.4).
The match was sponsored by Jon Hall who presented Grace with the match ball for Player of The Match.
Also a massive thanks to Lexi for doing the scoring on Play - Cricket.
Well done Shaw, what a great first match. Let's keep it up and this will undoubtedly result in some good wins this season.
Good luck to Elton in the next round of the cup.
